Frequently asked questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Why is there sand in the middle of the Plaça Major?

The central area of the Plaça Major has never been paved or asphalted. There may be several reasons for this, since the square has been used for a wide variety of activities over the course of history: correbous (bull runs), shows, races, concerts... But the most likely reason is that the market has been held here since the Middle Ages. Whatever the case, the sand surface of the square is maintained today out of tradition and is one of its most characteristic features.

A stroll around the Plaça Major and the historical centre, a visit to the Episcopal Museum to view its mediaeval art collection and a visit to the cathedral to see the decorative art of J. M.
