The Paths of Bishop and Abbot Oliba is a route connecting the counties of Bages, Osona and Ripollès, and is based on the theme of this important historical figure.
Of all the architectural and artistic movements that have existed over the centuries, the most widespread in this area is the Romanesque style. The counties of Osona, Bages and Ripollès are shining examples of this extensive heritage. A church (or some other kind of building in this style) stands or has stood in every single village, town and city of these counties. Romanesque architecture unites us and makes this project meaningful.
As such, Romanesque architecture is an integrating force in Central Catalonia and serves as the ideal basis for improving territorial balance and showcasing the landscape, gastronomy, traditions and complementary tourism resources of inland Catalonia.

Description of the route
The route follows the course of the Ter River and offers us the chance to discover towns closely related to the river and to explore sites such as old factories, bridges and industrial model villages. It passes through Roda de Ter, Manlleu, Les Masies de Voltregà, Torelló, Sant Vicenç de Torelló, Orís, Sant Quirze de Besora and Montesquiu.
Way of Saint James
The restoration of the main Catalan branches of the Way of Saint James forms part of the strategy to incorporate Catalonia in a well-established network of great European routes, of which the Way of Saint James is the most important and best known example.
In this respect, the Way of Saint James has been considered a “cultural asset” and has been recognised as the “first great European route” by the European Institute of Cultural Routes, attached to the Council of Europe. Furthermore, the main branches of the way have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Vic-Olot Camí Ral (Royal Way)
The Vic-Olot Camí Ral (Royal Way) is 44 km long and connects the two cities by crossing the Vic Plain, Sant Martí Sescorts, Cabrerès (Santa Maria de Corcó and Rupit i Pruit), L’Hostalot and La Salut. It links up with the section of Garrotxa that mainly passes through the Bas Valley and Les Preses.
Apart from the Grau de l'Hostalot Waterfall, there is little change in elevation, although it is not a flat path.

For the most part we follow the original path, although in some sections it has been replaced by modern roads and we must take care with traffic. The state of abandonment of the path following the arrival of the new road has meant that some sections are confusing or not very clear, but restoration work has been carried out in the form of the refurbished underpass and other improvements.
A few years ago, yellow markings were placed right along the route, which combined with the vertical signs (installed by Barcelona Provincial Council) from Hostalot to Vic, it’s now easier to follow. However, there are some tricky sections where we have to be careful to make sure we stay on the right path, due to the fact that it has been occupied by local farming activities, by the road or by other obstacles.
The route can be completed in one or two days, depending on how well prepared we are. It’s always easier to walk the route from Vic to Olot, since the climb is much gentler.
The characteristics of the route frequently change. There are footpaths, trails and even rough ground, in varying states of repair.
